The first time I met her was at her husband’s coming home ceremony. Mine had come home just a few days before from our first deployment and we were there to help welcome some of his closest friends home. I actually didn’t know who she was yet and accidentally bumped into her while she was searching for her husband through the crowd…pretty sure she wasn’t impressed with my lack of body control because she rolled her eyes and I went on to talk about her on the car ride home. 12 years later, we still laugh because the plan for our friendship was much more than we could have ever hoped for. We ended up getting stationed at the same place together again, were pregnant with our first babies together and they were born with in months of each other. They now talk about growing up and marring each other which makes us cry and laugh at the though that we could be in-laws one day. They left and moved twice, we left and moved once and somehow, we ended up back together one more time.
This life has given me gifts I never expected to receive. These people in my life that you see on your screen are part of my family. They have seen the good, bad and ugly and are the fabric of who has become the adult me. It’s nice to be in the trenches of raising babies and living this life with other people who complete you. Over the last 12 years, we’ve been though a collective 9 deployment and added 5 people to this world. These are the reasons I wouldn’t walk away from this life. And, also the reasons why the hardships we go through are worth it-I’m beyond thrilled they were the first family I photographed in Fayetteville. It couldn’t have started any better.

And, finally, we’ve reached the end of my time in Monterey, CA…and how fitting to end the time with a new-born baby. Our time in California was beyond amazing. My clients were exactly what I would have ever hoped for and more. As we made our transition to Fayetteville, North Carolina I wondered what was in store for this business. I was constantly asked if I was going to continue working with clients after we moved. I said yes, of course, but you never really know what a change like a cross-country move does to your business. It was sad to walk away from the people who had created this business for me. Also exciting because what awaited me here was a world full of support and love and beautiful winter light. I started shooting the week we arrived and its been kind of perfect. I can’t wait to see what this year brings for Jen Daniels Photo!! Thank you for being part of my world!

I was busy right before we left Monterey and some of my very favorite sessions of the entire year came from these crazy, busy last couple of weeks. This ranks right up there among the favorites of the year. I’m totally a sucker for big families. I love them so much and I love the parents that commit to such a wild and chaotic time while they raise kids. I’m also always totally in awe of parent who have more than we do in our family. I feel like many days I’m teetering between being ok and totally loosing control of the kids. They outnumber us and they know it. It’s so nice to see it in action with a bigger crew and to know that it can be done, they will get bigger and to see the love that it brings each family.
